Possibly the most important thing
Why speak about hydration
Well this is the bit where there are a lot of facts and experiences that say this is the biggest mistake we make.
I know that proper hydration is healthy but when you add Psoriasis into the mix, I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s the most underrated and equally important thing that is missed by a wide mark.
And this is where the word Alcohol needs to be brought into the picture. I like many other Psoriasis sufferers drink alcohol. If I have a few drinks I’ll easily fall asleep without the irritation and itch that plagues the sober nights. Truth be told, it’s the easiest way to fall asleep.
So let’s take this weekend. I drank on Saturday, fell asleep, then got up and went for a hike. Drank loads of water, but by the evening my skin was alive. No amount of moisturiser or treatment cream would settle it down, I eventually fell asleep around 3am. I’ve been awake since 8 am, my skin is alive again, despite my hydration and 2 x skin sessions . The common denominator is the Alcohol. As we all know it mucks up the hydration levels, but it also lingers for a few days… the booze is simply not worth it and as I write this and weigh up my discomfort, I know there is only one choice and that’s to forget the Alcohol.
So what else mucks with Hydration…. yup caffeine…. I love my coffee but I’m limiting it to one good cup a day. If I have two or more my skin is alive again. And I suppose that’s the point of this page. I’m spotting reactions, that are similar to the Alcohol reaction and I’m watching how these reactions are linked to my hydration. Good hydration days = my skin is not alive and I can sleep without any issue. Bad hydration days = my skin is alive and I’ll get no sleep.
I’m seeing patters of bad hydration days and it’s down to different foods, different activities and the choices I make. So it’s not just alcohol or caffeine, it’s also salty foods and sweet foods. Processed foods, takeaways, burgers, beef, any red meat, pork and chocolate…… they all result in the same skin alive and
